1 Lap of Gingerman Raceway
![]()
Gingerman Raceway, located about five miles east of Lake Michigan, is a flat course designed for club-racing. It is a fairly tight track, with a nice technical section on turns 1 & 2, as well as turns seven through 10. The course itself features lots of runoff room so that if you do find yourself off-track, you'll only mow grass. One fellow racer DID however manage to flip their Saturn SW2 and total it on turn six while I was there, though. (The rule is to straighten out before leaving the pavement: Don't pavement surf to the last inch of roadway!) The cost for one day of track time is about $150. We drive aproximately fifty laps that day. Depending on weather, and how the club runs the sessions, you could get in as many as a hundred laps. Be prepared to watch your car eat brake pads and drink gas: My mileage on the track was 8.1 MPG; I used up half the thickness of my new Geniune GM pads. Below is listed the time-history for an entire lap g Gingerman raceway. This isn't the fastest lap that I recorded, it was the first lap. Still, it shows some interesting features. The 700R4 transmission downshifts show up clearly. So do the braking maneuvers. The turns are quite clear as well. A lot of vertical vibration was seen in the straightaway as the driveshaft is currently out of balance.
